Steven Zweig, MD, named interim chair of MU Family and Community Medicine

Steve Zweig, MD, has been appointed interim chair of the Curtis W. and Ann H. Long Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. The department's former chair, Hal Williamson, MD, is serving as MU's interim vice chancellor for health sciences.

Dr. Zweig will remain the Paul Revare, MD, Family Professor in Family Medicine and director of MU's Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. He was associate chair of the department and has held several other administrative, education and research responsibilities.

A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Zweig received his medical degree from MU in 1979. He remained at MU to complete a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Academic Family Practice Fellowship and joined MU's faculty in 1984. In January 2006, he was appointed director of MU's Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. Three years earlier, he helped MU receive a $1.9 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to strengthen geriatric medicine training in Missouri. He is a practicing family physician, geriatrician and hospice medical director.

Dr. Zweig asked Michael LeFevre, Professor, Medical Director and CMIO of University of Missouri Health Care, to take on the additional role of Associate Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He has graciously accepted.
