Steven Zweig, MD, named chair of MU Family and Community Medicine
Steven Zweig, MD, has been named chair of the Curtis
W. and Ann H. Long Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri School of
Medicine. Dr. Zweig has served as interim chair since the department's former leader,
Hal Williamson, MD, was appointed vice chancellor
for the University of Missouri Health System.
Dr. Zweig will remain the Paul Revare, MD, Family Professor in Family Medicine and director of MU's
Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. He was
previously associate chair of the department and has held several other administrative, education and
research responsibilities.
A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Zweig completed medical school, residency in family medicine,
and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Academic Family Practice Fellowship at MU. He joined MU's faculty
in 1984. In January 2006, he was appointed director of MU's Interdisciplinary Center on Aging.
Three years earlier, he helped MU receive a $1.9 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation
to strengthen geriatric medicine training in Missouri. He is certified in family medicine, geriatric
medicine and palliative medicine.
