Steven Zweig, MD, named chair of MU Family and Community Medicine

Steven Zweig, MD, has been named chair of the Curtis W. and Ann H. Long Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Dr. Zweig has served as interim chair since the department's former leader, Hal Williamson, MD, was appointed vice chancellor for the University of Missouri Health System.

Dr. Zweig will remain the Paul Revare, MD, Family Professor in Family Medicine and director of MU's Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. He was previously associate chair of the department and has held several other administrative, education and research responsibilities.

A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Zweig completed medical school, residency in family medicine, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Academic Family Practice Fellowship at MU. He joined MU's faculty in 1984. In January 2006, he was appointed director of MU's Interdisciplinary Center on Aging. Three years earlier, he helped MU receive a $1.9 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to strengthen geriatric medicine training in Missouri. He is certified in family medicine, geriatric medicine and palliative medicine.
